Home / News & Awards / Hotel News / Heritage with a modern edge – Sydney set to welcome Kimpton Margot, as the city’s most anticipated hotel reveals her name. Plus a slew of global Kimpton superstars join the Sydney team

October 21st 2021

Every Kimpton hotel around the world is one of a kind with each having its own unique identity and visual representation. The soon-to-be-open Kimpton Sydney now officially has a name of its own; Kimpton Margot Sydney

Magnificent art deco architecture meets modern Australian style with Kimpton Margot Sydney, a name that gives a nod to the many artistic women of influence that shaped the art scene in Australia during the 1930s. The hotel will carry on this spirit of creativity through its styling direction and guest experience touchpoints, notably through the immersive art program the hotel intends to create, which will feature an eclectic line-up of local artists.

Ridiculously personal experiences are a hallmark of every Kimpton hotel, and Kimpton Margot Sydney will hang its hat on a commitment to creating genuine human connections through encouraging authenticity, heartfelt service (for people and pets, thanks to its pet friendly policy) and thoughtful perks and amenities. Additionally, bringing guests together through features such as nightly Social Hour is going to be one of the most exciting elements to Kimpton Margot Sydney and the countdown is well and truly on to opening.

A heritage-listed 1930s Art Deco revival of inter-war period architecture with a modern touch, Kimpton Margot Sydney will open in January 2022 with 172 spacious, contemporary rooms and suites featuring whimsical wall art from local and international artists and Art Deco touches that will add a warmth akin to home. The hotel will also feature a rooftop swimming pool, conference and event spaces that are bathed in natural daylight, as well as public spaces and restaurants that reflect the hallmarks of a city both cosmopolitan and future-forward. The range of innovative culinary experiences, helmed by Luke Mangan, which include a lobby bar, historic cellar, rooftop restaurant and bar, café, and Luke’s Kitchen are all an invitation to linger and are built on Kimpton’s legacy of locally loved restaurants.

Located in the heart of Sydney’s “south-side”, on the fringe of Surry Hills and Darlinghurst, Kimpton Margot Sydney sits between spectacular Sydney Harbour and buzzy Chinatown, and is mere moments from Sydney’s best shopping as well as trendy inner-city neighbourhoods. Its grand patterns, plush soft furnishings and botanical displays create a harmoniously eclectic hideaway amid the hustle-bustle.

In addition to introducing the name of the hotel, the team is pleased to announce a leading line-up of appointments, poised to usher the brand’s renowned heartfelt hospitality into Sydney. Kenza Sebti has been appointed Director of Rooms, returning to Kimpton after earlier spending five years with Kimpton hotels  in New York. Tammy McGregor has been appointed Restaurant & Bars Manager and comes from Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa in the Caribbean, which was the first international property for the Kimpton brand. Tammy has spent the last five years at Kimpton Seafire and will lead the restaurant and bar team at Kimpton Margot Sydney. Adam Leonard has joined the hotel as Director of Sales and Marketing, bringing with him tremendous experience, most recently from InterContinental Hayman Island Resort where he was responsible for opening and then reopening the iconic private island. The team  will be responsible for delivering the ridiculously personal experiences that Kimpton hotels are renowned for.

Shantha de Silva, Head of Operations at Pro-invest Hotels said, “The appointment of Adam to Director of Sales and Marketing is a key milestone for Kimpton Margot Sydney as we gear up for opening in January. Adam’s experience in luxury hotels and resorts will be of great value to Kimpton, as personalised service combined with highly curated guest experiences is paramount to delivering on the Kimpton brand promise. We know Adam is going to be a key driver of Kimpton’s lifestyle programming which includes experiences such as yoga lessons, art and wine appreciation events and of course Kimpton’s iconic Social Hour, and we are excited to see the programs come to life.”

“In addition to Adam’s appointment, we are also excited to have a leading lineup of Kimpton colleagues from around the world join Kimpton Margot Sydney.  Their enthusiasm to launch this landmark hotel is a testament to the brand and the excitement that is building around the property and we can’t wait to see them put their stamp on Kimpton Margot Sydney.”

Other new hires at Kimpton Margot Sydney include

Jane Thai, Director of People & Culture

Jorge Tayag, Director of Engineering

The Kimpton brand has been growing rapidly around the world over recent years, with 73 Kimpton Hotels now open globally and 32 in the pipeline. Australia is the newest market for the brand, continuing the recent growth trajectory with hotels opening around the world.
