Sydney, Tuesday, 17 May 2022 – One of Australia’s largest hotel owners and operators, Pro-invest Group, last week celebrated the opening of Australia’s first-ever Kimpton, Kimpton Margot Sydney, with speeches from Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and NSW Premier The Hon Dominic Perrottet MP, who also unveiled a plaque commemorating the occasion.

The Lord Mayor talked about her delight at the reinvigoration of the CBD post-pandemic, and the strong arts and heritage culture of Sydney, to which Kimpton is a natural addition. Premier Perrottet highlighted the importance of infrastructure developments and other key projects to the continued vibrancy of the city.

Ronald Barrott, Chairman of Pro-invest Group, expressed his gratitude to all that attended, in particular the Premier, Minister Stuart Ayres, and the Lord Mayor, as well as people who had made the occasion possible from the Pro-invest team – including partners IHG Hotels & Resorts, the Kimpton hotel team and Luke Mangan who created a dining experience at the hotel.

Barrott spoke of the Group’s excitement at being part of Sydney’s recovery. “This is a special occasion for Pro-invest Group. We established this company in 2010 to bring a new operating model to the Australian hotel and hospitality sector – not just to build one of the country’s biggest hotel portfolios but to apply the expertise of a skilled hospitality leadership to creating unique properties offering new levels of personalised service, operating efficiency and sustainability.
“Kimpton Margot Sydney is an exquisite piece of Sydney history that represents the Sydney of today and tomorrow. Built in 1938-39 in art deco style for Sydney Water Board but derelict for many years, in an inspired piece of policy making it was allowed to be converted into a hotel. This heritage-listed building now offers sustainable and ethical accommodation to modern travellers from across the globe. It’s part of a new breed of hotels that form an integrated part of visitors’ local experience, with Sydney architecture, food, and views on offer from the moment you step inside.” 170 guests from Sydney’s political, media and hospitality sectors celebrated the event with live music, live art from Georgia Draws A House, exercise with Peloton and Egg of the Universe, furry friends with llamas in the lobby and puppies on Level 6 thanks to the hotel’s partnership with Petbarn, as well as drinks and food by Luke Mangan.

Mr Barrott added: “This year will be a very significant one with Pro-invest Group opening eight hotels, and where better to start than in the emergence of Sydney’s hospitality and hotel sector from the Covid-19 pandemic. Challenges remain, but the clear feeling is that Sydneysiders and visitors to Sydney want to enjoy the beauty of what this city has to offer once more. Premier Perrottet’s Government has played an important role in facilitating the opening up of the hospitality
industry in an expeditious and measured way. And local visitors and business are supporting each other in a way that will see a fast and successful recovery.”

As IHG Hotels & Resort’s luxury boutique brand, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is celebrated for its signature heartfelt service, locally-loved restaurants and bars, and unique design ethos.

At Kimpton Margot Sydney, heritage-listed Art Deco architecture meets modern Australian style and signature Kimpton service. Guest can enjoy fine food at Luke’s Kitchen, Luke Mangan’s superb dining space; wine at Cellar by Luke; meaningful travel experiences and complimentary drinks at the daily Social Hour; swims in the rooftop pool; and stay with their pets thanks to Kimpton’s “if it fits in the lift, it can stay” pet policy.
